Emeraude Classic Cruise Halong: Old world charm resurfaced on the calm water of Halong Bay, Vietnam with the launch of a magnificent five star vessel Emeraude modeled in the tradition of the grand old single wheeled paddle steamer of the colonial era. One of the great natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, HalongBay covers an area of about 1,500 kmē over which are scattered thousands of limestone islands and grottoes rising from the clear, emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.
The original Emeraude was one of the flotillas owned by the Roque family who left Bordeaux in 1858 in search of fame and fortune. The fleet cruised along Indochina waterways and HalongBay in the old days. The original Emeraude sank in the Bay in 1937. Using advanced techniques, French architects painstakingly modeled the new vessel from old photos and drawings found at the Paris' MaritimeMuseum. Travelers can now relax, seek total comfort in the luxurious cabins or enjoy the beautiful sea breeze on the sun deck and enjoy the splendor and serenity of nature.
The Emeraude operates daily a two day, one night cruise. For lunch and dinner, passengers get to enjoy delicious freshly caught seafood and Vietnamese specialties. In the morning, an American style breakfast is served onboard the colonial vessel. For passengers who want more than just cruising around, the Emeraude also offers afternoon tea, traditional body massages and sunrise. The trip is completely flexible offering the variety of options for all tourists.

General information about Halong Bay - the Natural World Heritage Site by Unesco:
Situated in the North-East region of Vietnam, Halong Bay is a bay in the Gulf of Tonkin comprised of regions of Halong City, Quang Ninh Province, the township of Cam Pha, and a part of the island district of Van Don. HalongBay borders Cat Ba Island in the southwest, the EastSea in the east, and the mainland, creating a 120 km coastline.
HalongBay is made up of 1,969 islands and islets of various sizes, 989 of which have been named. There are two kinds of islands, limestone and schist, which are concentrated in two main zones: the southeast (belongs to Bai Tu Long Bay), and the southwest (belongs to HalongBay). This densely concentrated zone of stone islands, world famous for its spectacular scenery of grottoes and caves, forms the central zone of HalongBay, which has been recorded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The bay itself covers an area of 43,400 ha, consists of 775 islands, and forms a triangle with the island of Dau Go (Driftwood Grotto) to the west, the lake of Ba Ham (ThreeShelterLake) to the south, and the island of Cong Tay to the east.
Viewed from above, HalongBay resembles a geographic work of art. While exploring the bay, you feel lost in a legendary world of stone islands. There is an island named Man's HeadIsland, which resembles a man standing and looking towards the mainland. DragonIsland looks like a dragon hovering above the turquoise water. La VongIsland resembles an old man fishing. There are also the islands of the Sail, the Pair of Roosters, and the Incense Burner, which all astonishingly resemble their namesakes. The forms of the islands change depending on the angle of the light and from where the islands are viewed. At the core of the islands, there are wonderful caves and grottoes, such as Thien Cung (Heavenly Palace Grotto), Dau Go (Driftwood Grotto), Sung Sot (Surprise Grotto), and Tam Cung (Three Palace Grotto).
HalongBay has many links to the history of Vietnam. For example, there are such famous geographical sites as Van Don (site of an ancient commercial port), PoemMountain (with engravings of many poems about emperors and other famous historical figures), and BachDangRiver (the location of two fierce naval battles fought against foreign invaders).
It has been proven by scientists that Halong was one of the first cradles of human existence in the area at such archeological sites as Dong Mang, Xich Tho, Soi Nhu, and Thoi Gieng. It is also a region of highly- concentrated biological diversity with many ecosystems of salt water-flooded forests, coral reefs, and tropical forests featuring thousands of species of animal and plant life.
With all this in mind, the 18th meeting of the Committee of the World Heritages of UNESCO (in Thailand on December 17th, 1994), officially recognized HalongBay as a natural heritage site of worldwide importance. Halong bay has also been recorded as a natural world heritage site for its archeology in the year 2000.
